Time Off

I had five or six days off after our trip to Puerto Rico. It was so nice to be home for more than two days in a row. I had so much that I wanted to accomplish. I made a list and actually did a pretty good job of making my way through it. Some of the items on my list included going through all the clothes in my closet and getting rid of stuff I shouldn't be wearing (Thanks for helping Myca!), picking out new glasses frames, updating my blog, updating my logbook, making bread, doing my visiting teaching, attending the temple, getting started on my year supply of food storage, establishing care with a physician, renewing my flight instructor certificate, and the list goes on and on.

It's amazing how much you can get done when you are home for more than two days. I was actually able to accomplish most of the items on my list. I called to get my flight instructor certificate renewed three days in a row and was never able to connect with anyone. I also called to establish care with a physician but it took them several days to get back to me. Luckily they did agree to accept me as a patient.

I went to the cannery for the first time. I didn't really know how it works so I just showed up to purchase some food. There was a very cute older couple there that asked if I had a blue card. I had no idea what they were talking about. They explained that in order to purchase anything besides the big bags of bulk items you have to come volunteer with your ward. I basically just asked if I could volunteer right there and then. I canned a bunch of sugar and wheat. Then I bought a year supply of wheat, rice, and beans. I know it isn't much but I am pretty proud of myself. Every time I attempt to work on my food storage I get discouraged because I feel totally overwhelmed not knowing where to start. I ended up seeing the same cute couple in my session at the temple a couple days later.

I was able to go to lunch with an old high school friend Mike Fitch. Apparently my dad ran into Colin Kearns who told Mike that most of the Tom Earl family were living in Boise. I haven't seen Mike since high school. He married his high school sweet heart Jennifer McFaddin and now has two kids. He is a realtor in Boise. He has stayed connected with all his buddies from high school so he was able to give me the scoop on a lot of old friends. It was a lot of fun catching up with him.

Brandon has been working his guts out. It makes me sad that I can't hang out with him more but I feel really blessed to be married to someone so industrious.

My mind can't even comprehend the food storage thing, so I don't think about it. Guess I'll just plan on figuring out a way to your house if something bad happens. :)
