Dennis picked up some tickets for Brandon and I to go with him to see World Champions of Freestyle Motocross at the LA County Fair on Saturday night. The show wasn't until 7:30pm. We went early so we could check out the fair.
The Fair was huge. The carnival section was located right as you walked in the front gate. There were people everywhere. It was tough just walking through the carnival area to get to anything else. We wandered around for a little while. Then we went and watched Splash Dogs. There is a pool set up with a platform. One dog at a time runs and dives off the platform into the pool. The distance is measured. The dog that makes it the farthest wins. We saw one dog almost make it 24 feet. It never ceases to amaze me how "into" their dogs some people can be. The announcer was introducing one dog and their owner and mentioned many world destinations the dog had been. So interesting.
Our next stop was The Stars of Peking Acrobats. We didn't catch the whole thing but what we did see was incredible. They were spinning plates on tables and sticks on the table. The women came out spinning multiple plates on multiple sticks and climbing on each other while they did it. There were a couple men and a couple boys that came out. The men laid on their backs and would throw the boys up in the air with their feet. The boys would do flips and switch back and forth between the two men. It was crazy. Very entertaining!
We stopped by the hypnotist show for a while too. I never know what to think of these shows. I can't decide if it's legit or not. Or maybe some is legit and some is not. I just don't know. Either way some of it was pretty funny.
The freestyle motocross was next. We had excellent seats. My only gripe is that the speakers were right in front of us. It was so loud that it was uncomfortable. They had 8 riders. They had two riders go against each other and would immediately eliminate one and send one onto the next round. Basically 8 down to 4 riders down to 2 riders. They also had the 2 riders that were in the semifinals that were eliminated ride against each other to determine a third place. The stunts were amazing. The finals were disappointing because something happened to the second riders bike in the middle of his ride.
After the show we tried to see the pig races but missed them. We did see the end of some geese racing. We grabbed some food and wandered around a little more. The vast amounts of food at the fair is overwhelming. I have never seen so many food items in a fried form.
I'm so glad that we were able to go to the LA Fair and the Freestyle Motocross. It was a blast.

Not only did you see interesting things at the fair, I bet you saw interesting people too, huh? Have you ever heard Bill Engvall's comedy section on the county fair? It is hilarious! I am sure it could be on youtube... worth listening too.
