I made chicken and wild rice soup last night. To go with it I decided to make some corn bread. My friend, Becky Linton, had given me her recipe to try. I mixed all the ingredients together and the batter looked totally suspect. It was all clumpy and looked way too dry. I went through the wet ingredients a couple of times to be sure. I was positive I had put in all the wet ingredients and had added the amounts specified. I decided to bake it even though I knew it wouldn't turn out. And it didn't! I was at a loss.
Last night we were out running errands and decided to stop by the Linton's house. I told Becky about how terrible my corn bread had turned out. I told her that maybe I had forgotten to write down one of the wet ingredients. She looked at the recipe on my phone and told me I had all of the wet items. She noticed that the corn meal had 5-7 (6) next to it but with no measurement. She asked how much corn meal I had added. I told her 6 cups. She started laughing so hard. I was suppose to put 6 Tablespoons. I was laughing too. I knew something wasn't right!
I guess the moral of the story is to make sure you write down a recipe correctly including measurements. That shows you what a great cook I am.
