Stake Variety Show

The week of the variety show was pretty crazy. I had a couple people back out. One found a replacement for them self which was perfect. I was scrambling to find someone to fill the other holes. In the end it all worked out. The day of the show was so crazy. We got up early to help some people move. Rushed to the Stake center for a rehearsal. The women all showed up for the Mother's Ultimate "To Do" practice. Only a few men showed up for the Lunch Lady Land practice. Luckily the ones that mattered most did. The guy playing Adam Sandler and his back up musicians (his son played the guitar and a friend played the drums) and Lunch Lady were all there. Then we ran and did a few errands, fed a homeless guy, hopped in the shower, and back to the Stake center.

All our performances turned out well. Our version of Lunch Lady Land was the last performance of the night. I guess the one stressful thing was one of the pieces of food showed up 5 minutes before we were suppose to go on stage without a costume. He didn't know he was suppose to bring his own. I thought I made that very clear in all my emails and he looked at me like it was the first he heard of it. He was suppose to be Pepperoni Pizza. He was wearing all black. One of the character in the song is chocolate pudding so without hesitation I told him "That's ok. You can be chocolate pudding." He said he would figure something out. There were two other young guys that were going to be in the performance standing right next to me. The said "Nice Alysha. Chocolate Pudding?" Then they started telling a bunch of people. The guy was a black guy. I didn't even think about it...I just saw that he was wearing black and thought of the characters and told him. If he had been wearing all white I probably would have told him he could be vanilla pudding or marsh mellow. Then I went looking for a pizza box or cardboard. I ran into him again. He said he would just back out. I said "You are wearing all black. Why don't you be something that's black like black licorice." He obviously didn't like the idea because he blew it off. I thought he wasn't going to be in it so I went to the stage to check everyone else. The performance started. He did go on stage. He had found a piece of cardboard and wrote on one side "Pepperoni Pizza Costume". On the other side he wrote "Sing with us".
I was glad to have the whole thing done. I felt really bad not knowing if I offended this guy or not. He probably thinks I am totally incompetent (because he didn't know to bring a costume) and racist. I talked to one of the members of the bishopric that had been in the performance and he told me not to worry about it. I could help but feel bad though. I have friends of all different backgrounds. I love all people. Oh well. I guess if the situation ever warrants it I will chat with him about it.

Alysha, you are adorable and hilarious. I'm glad it's over for you- it sounded super stressful.
