I know that it's really shocking to learn that I worked over the 4th of July weekend. I had a two day trip on Saturday and Sunday. It was an Inyokern overnight. When we arrived at the hotel on Saturday I changed into workout clothes. I walked out the door just in time to see my first officer and flight attendant leaving to go to lunch. They didn't tell me that they were going. This led me to wonder if I am one of "those people" that co-workers don't want to hang out with outside of work. My FO had asked what I was going to do. I told him that I would probably work out and study. When I asked him he told me he wasn't sure yet. I don't know if he didn't say anything because he knew what I was planning on doing. To be honest I probably wouldn't have gone but I just thought it was weird that they didn't ask.
My two day trip ended around 12:30 on Sunday. I attended sacrament at a building not far from the airport. It was testimony meeting. The spirit was there and it was very touching. A woman from Brazil sat next to me and was very welcoming and friendly. One man that bore his testimony should be a history teacher. He recounted the events that led up to our independence and more specifically described the events that inspired the lyrics to the Star Spangled Banner by Francis Scott Key. I love this country so much!
I went back to my father-in-laws house and slept for a couple hours. Then I drove back out to LAX to do a stand-up to San Diego. There were fireworks going off all over as I drove to the airport. I swear I got in almost a million accidents. People were just not paying attention to the road. That was the extent of my July 4th celebration.
I am so grateful to live in this free country. I am grateful for our forefathers that sacrificed so much so that we could enjoy these freedoms. I am thankful for the men and women that continue to defend our freedoms. I am thankful for our constitution. Although the United States is not perfect I do believe that it is the most perfect form of government in the world right now. I am very concerned for the future of our country. Our national debt is alarming. I feel like the politicians don't see how the choices that they are making for all of us will negatively affect our future. I hope people are waking up.
