Yesterday at 3:oo in the afternoon I was called into work. I was suppose to do a turn to Bakersfield and then be released to go home. When we finished in LAX operations asked us to reposition the airplane to the remote parking area. This adds another twenty minutes to the day but we did it. I took the bus back to the employee parking lot and jumped in my car. I was several miles down the 105 freeway when I received a call from work. I thought they were just giving me a heads up for an assignment for the next day (since it was already 8:00 pm). I was wrong. They wanted me to go back to the airport to fly to Bakersfield again. This time staying overnight and not returning until 5:oo pm today. I did not have an overnight bag with me. Luckily Brandon came to bring me some clothes and food. Unfortunately he forgot my toiletries, makeup, etc. But gratefully I had workout clothes and food! When I asked who I would be flying with they didn't know yet. I ended up with the exact crew I had flown with earlier...we were all suckers and picked up our phones.
So today I went running on the treadmill and tried to organize some stuff for this variety show I was called to do. It was hard to get much done because I didn't have a computer. I came down to the lobby of the hotel to use the one I'm on now but my first officer was on it for an hour. I had a book to read while I waited. Then some guy in his forties or fifties sat down on a couch across from me. He was there for a while and then asked if I wanted to go have a glass of wine. What?! What nerve. I politely said no thank you and went back to reading. Awkward! It is 3:00 pm and I'm wearing a wedding ring. It is even funnier considering that I have no make-up on, I'm wearing my glasses, I have no deodorant or perfume on and my hair is wet (remember I have absolutely no toiletries...I was able to get a toothbrush, toothpaste, and a comb from the front desk...that's it.) Luckily my first officer got off the computer a few minutes later so I could leave the situation.
