LAX as a Domicile

Skywest announced a few months ago that LAX would be opened as a normal Brasilia domicile. Up until this point it has been a reserve domicile. There were only two captains based there and we were both reserve. They also announced that they would be closing San Diego, Carlsbad, and Sacramento as bases. San Diego is a very senior domicile. All those pilots receive an incentive for going to LAX. How will this affect me? I have been wondering this very question. They transferred 22 pilots to LAX. Vyda and I who were already in LAX were allowed to stay but we are the last two in seniority there. That means we will probably both be on reserve still.


I did get my schedule for October. It is a composite line. That means that I have some reserve days and some trips already on my schedule. I use the term trips very loosely. I was given all stand-ups to Inyokern. Stand-ups are when you take the last trip into a city at night and you are the first flight out in the morning. We basically get into the hotel around midnight and have to leave the hotel around 4 am. Sounds fun, right! Try not to be jealous of my sweet schedule. We'll see what the next few months bring.
